Through the lifespan of consoles, they tend to get updated from time to time with new features, options and a bit of a new design. While the beta for the Playstation 4’s Shingen update won’t be as drastic as the change from the Xbox 360 blades to the NXE interface, it does bring with it a few changes.
Update 4.00 will bring a bit of a UI update, adding new features to the ‘quick’ and ‘share’ menus. The ‘quick’ menu, which can be accessed by holding down the PS button on the controller, will now allow you to change your online status, see who’s playing what, and reply to messages, all while staying in your game. The ‘share’ menu has been reduced so as not to cover the whole screen, and includes options to begin Share Play or start a gameplay broadcast.
Shingen will also introduce folders to the main PS4 menu. While many users probably don’t own as many games for current generation consoles as they did for previous generations, those who do will find the update useful to keep their titles organised.
Finally, the update will also bring some minor changes to trophies, allowing them to be viewed offline. Hidden trophies can also be revealed, which kind of defeats their purpose, but I doubt many will actually use this feature – trophies aren’t nearly as revered as achievements on the Xbox consoles.
What do you think about the changes? Are you looking forward to Shingen coming out of beta and onto all consoles? Are you part of the beta program – tell us what you think of the update below!
